Subtle values work best: noise around 10 to 20, a rotation of about 0.5 degrees with a little Rotate Variance so each page tilts differently, and a touch of blur. Turn on Grayscale for a photocopier look, add Border for the dark edge a flatbed leaves, and drop Resolution to 100 to 150 DPI for a fax-like result.

It adds a random amount, up to the value you set (0 to 3 degrees), to the base rotation on every page, so a ten-page document doesn't have ten identically tilted pages. The preview shows only the base rotation; the variation is applied when you click Apply.

No. Each page is rendered, processed as pixels, and saved as a JPEG image, so the output is image-only. That's usually the point of a scan effect, but keep the original if you need editable text later.

The preview renders the first page at screen resolution and ignores the Resolution slider, so noise and blur can look slightly stronger or weaker in the final output, and it can't show the per-page rotation variance. The other settings match what you'll get.

It sets the DPI at which pages are rendered before the effects are applied, from 72 to 300. Lower values make pages softer and more pixelated, like a cheap scanner, and produce smaller files; 300 DPI keeps text crisp but makes a much larger PDF.

Raise the Yellowish slider to add a warm tint that mimics aged or recycled paper. Combine it with Grayscale for a photocopy-of-a-photocopy look, and nudge Brightness down and Contrast up to imitate a tired toner cartridge.
